The Save the Date Card – Why, When, and How

So many couples love the idea of the Save the Date…they are fun and functional (they do in fact…save the date!).   But Save the Date cards, like the wedding invitation itself, can be a confusing proposition for a bride and groom.  So here are some of the most commonly asked questions I receive regarding Save the Date cards, and my answers. Do we need to send a Save the Date? The first question is always…do we need to send a Save the Date?  The answer is, and this is coming from someone who carries an entire line of Save the Date cards, no.   Etiquette (the ruler of my universe) does not require a Save the Date be sent before a wedding. Couples send Save the Dates for a number of other reasons, which typically include: 1) Their wedding falls during a holiday or popular party season (early fall, early summer), and they want their guests to “save the date” for their nuptials rather than schedule a vacation or plan an event. 2) Save the Date cards are a perfect way for a newly engaged couple to share their collective style with a stylish Save the Date card (there are SO many to choose from!), or show off a great engagement photo shoot. 3) Couples want to provide important information, i.e. wedding website or hotel and airfare information, well in advance of the wedding.
